As part of our ongoing support of ASLA, we ran our first giveaway earlier this year titled Sow Seeds of Change. The winner received complimentary registration to ASLA 2024 in Washington, DC, hotel accommodations, and a cash prize towards conference-related expenses. We proudly introduce the 2024 Sow Seeds of Change winner, Meghan Obernberger!
Meet Meghan
Meghan earned her B.A. in Landscape Architecture from the University of Washington, Seattle, where she was named a 2022 Olmsted Scholar–a leadership recognition program supported by LAF. She is a project leader for Studio Outside, an award-winning Dallas-based landscape architectural firm. Learn more about Meghan's passion for landscape architecture, a recent project she's particularly proud of, outside hobbies and interests, and what she most looks forward to at this year's ASLA conference.
Passionate Landscape Architect and Outdoor Enthusiast
Meghan's focus within landscape architecture is the backstory of place. She shares, "I am fascinated by the stories and histories tied to landscapes and enjoy having the privilege of working with communities to see their visions of a place come to life through thoughtful and intentional design." Meghan recently worked on a non-profit greening schoolyard project in Northern California, where she was able to engage with students and stakeholders whose input helped shape design decisions on the campuses they would be utilizing and spending time in that included nature play, outdoor classrooms, shade covers, gardens, and art.
"In my free time, I can often be found outdoors," Meghan enthusiastically shares. She enjoys gardening, explorative bike rides around Dallas, and "backpacking and camping throughout the Southwest...sketching my travels", Meghan adds.
Road to ASLA 2024
As for ASLA 2024, Meghan looks forward to exploring historic sites and the landscaping scene in Washington, D.C. "I am most excited to learn more about how peers across the country are approaching climate change mitigation and adaptation through urban forestry, greening schoolyards, and inclusive public engagement," she shares. Meghan says she is excited to experience the innovative and thoughtful folks who share her profession and the opportunity to rub elbows with academic and professional leaders in the landscape architectural industry.
