Camperdown Plaza & Streetscape

Greenville, SC

Camperdown Plaza is a landmark mixed-use development, located in the heart of downtown Greenville, South Carolina, and developed by Centennial American Properties. Camperdown encompasses an entire city block featuring the 196-room AC Hotel, the home of a rooftop bar and seven dining environments. It contains 80,000 sq. ft. of retail space, and 150,000 sq. ft. of offices; plus, a 217-room apartment building and 18 condominiums at the top of Falls Tower. Adjacent to the Peace Center and overlooking Greenville’s iconic Falls Park – the Camperdown site which was once a former cotton mill is now a lively community, and a unique place to work, live, and play.

Camperdown’s plaza area is designed to be similar to an outdoor marketplace, which rests at the crossroads of downtown’s busiest streets. It’s a hub for culture, community, commerce, and wellness with ample space for enjoying the outdoors.

Tournesol Siteworks had the pleasure of being involved with this historic project. With a great deal of outdoor space - site furnishings and planters were a large part of the exterior design. Landscape Architect Matt Anders, formally with Beau Welling Design, reached out to Tournesol for help with technical and engineering support with some of his custom designs.

Beau Welling Design initially had a vision for a perforated metal benching surface on large, steel planter walls, but this eventually evolved into using thermally modified wood benches after Tournesol’s Customworks Engineering team demonstrated the overall benefits of our Wally Benching system.

After iterating on the new design, Brasfield & Gorrie Contractors installed our Wally Collection in custom 2” x 4” Ipe wood bench and platform seating along the sides of our Kitsap Modular Metal Planter Walls. Kitsap comprises modular steel metal planter walls that bolt together to allow a vast range of planter options to sculpt space. They chose to finish these Kitsap walls in our standard powder-coat finish which includes a zinc-rich primer – also available in Weathering steel (steel that rusts but maintains its structural strength) and stainless steel. As you see from the images, the landscape architects’ design shapes and planter sizes are various and fabulous – triangular, “L” shaped and others, totaling seven Kitsap planters around Camperdown Plaza and Streetscape.

Along another side of the plaza, they installed 48 of our square, powder-coated Wilshire Steel Collection Planters, 48”W x 48”L and 40”H. The planters divide the space and create a wonderful seating area in between, beautifully planted with flowers for the community to enjoy in a relaxing environment. The result is a stunning and sleek look which will be a lasting feature in this unique and important community development.
